The Indonesian Water Association (IdWA) successfully conducted the latest edition of its Water Engineer Series training on Saturday, 25 April 2026, at HYDRO Corporate University in Bogor. The full-day program — centered on the fundamentals of membrane filtration and ion exchange for water treatment applications — drew over 55 water industry professionals, making it one of the most attended technical training sessions in the series to date.
The training opened to a full room, a reflection of the growing demand among Indonesian water practitioners for structured, applied technical education. Participants came from diverse professional backgrounds — field operators, process engineers, and water treatment system designers — brought together by a shared commitment to deepening their expertise in one of the most critical areas of modern water management.
Following opening remarks from IdWA leadership (Ibu Eva Nirmala) and a brief technical orientation, lead trainer Hafiz As'ad took the floor for the first of two intensive sessions. The morning covered the fundamentals of ion exchange resin technology: the principles behind how resins work, the classification of resin types, regeneration cycles, and key design considerations for softening and demineralization systems. Participants engaged actively throughout, bringing real-world challenges from their own operations into the discussion — elevating the learning well beyond the slides.
After a coffee break, participants heard from TORAY — a globally recognized leader in membrane technology and one of the event's three sponsors. The TORAY presentation offered a practical look at advanced RO and UF membrane solutions, supported by project references and case studies from across the region. The session bridged the gap between product knowledge and field application, giving participants a sharper picture of what modern membrane technology looks like when deployed at scale.
The afternoon resumed after lunch with a technical presentation from SUNTAR, another sponsor and established player in Indonesia's water filtration industry. Their session covered ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis technologies, with particular focus on applications relevant to Indonesia's water treatment context. Engagement from the audience remained high — a strong signal of the quality of content being delivered.
Hafiz As'ad then returned for the day's second main training block: a deep dive into membrane filtration principles. The session covered filtration modes, system performance parameters, monitoring practices, and design fundamentals — the kind of applied, working knowledge that helps engineers make better decisions in the field. Questions came steadily from the floor as participants connected the material to their own operational realities.
The day concluded with a panel Q&A session bringing together the trainer and both sponsor companies. The discussion ranged broadly: membrane fouling management, pre-treatment strategies, resin selection criteria, and operational troubleshooting. It was the kind of open, honest exchange that transforms a training day into a genuine professional dialogue.
The session ended with a casual discussion and networking session capping a full, productive day at HYDRO Corporate University.
This event was made possible through the generous support of three industry sponsors: TORAY, SUNTAR, and HYDRO — each of whom contributed not only resources but also technical knowledge that enriched the training experience for every participant in the room.
IdWA will continue expanding the Water Engineer Series as part of its commitment to building technical capacity across Indonesia's water sector. Stay connected for upcoming programs, events, and industry updates.
